TCB BONAIRE
LOCAL REPORT
From the Director's Desk
The recent TCB Marketing Meeting was really a milestone event. We had the participation of over 180 folks during the two day program. The first day we presented our new TCB Branding and reported the results of our research that led up to this meeting. We were able to pinpoint the areas where we will be putting our efforts to improve the product and to realize more visitors to the island. The second part of the day one was dedicated to the Marketing Strategies in our different markets and to the Internet and plans for our new presence on the web.
The second day started with a change of venue with the program being held in Rincon, the oldest village on Bonaire. Through the latter TCB wanted to give all present, local and international attendees, the true Bonairean feeling, let all present get in touch with the authentic Bonaire product. We spent the time in discussions gathering feedback from our participants. We are very happy with the results and with the reception of TCB’s new branding and how we are planning to present the product. The sessions yielded valuable information which will be incorporated into our planning.
Most important was the participation of the 10 plus overseas partners who were at the meetings:

All of the staff from TCB wants to thank the participants, the TCB offices and press for taking the time to join us and for giving us the chance to unveil new concepts and strategies for marketing. I realize how busy everyone is and that the valuable time you all have given will make a difference in the overall plan for Bonaire!
Also on the agenda for this month is the 39th Sailing Regatta which will take place from the 9th through the 14th. It is well attended by our friends from throughout the Caribbean and local sailors. You can keep up with the event by visiting www.bonaireregatta.org.
I would also like to thank all of those involved in welcoming the “Wounded Warriors” to Bonaire this month. Captain Don’s Habitat will host 8 recently certified divers who have been serving in the US Military. The outpouring of offers to help has been nothing short of amazing. TCB will help in welcoming these brave soldiers as will our Lt. Governor Domacasse.
Laslty I would like to congratulate Captain Don's Habitat's management and personnel with their 30th year anniversary, keep up the good work and many many years more.

New Bonaire Ambassadors
AMBASSADOR HONORED FOR BRINGING GROUPS FOR 29 YEARS TO BONAIRE
Congratulations to Harold “Di” Dieter!!
From my very first visit with Captain Don in August 1971, I’ve been impressed with Bonaire’s amazing diving and friendly people. I returned a few more times afterward, and starting 29 years ago I made Bonaire an annual trip so that other people could experience the diving and the people of Bonaire on a regular basis.
I’ve been particularly impressed by Captain Don’s foresight in maintaining the beauty of Bonaire’s underwater world through the development of the Bonaire Marine Park.
My Bonaire trips are by far the most popular and requested trips I offer, especially among the repeat visitors who have experienced firsthand the pleasures of diving in Bonaire.
I appreciate the tribute you’ve given me, but the Tourism Corporation Bonaire, the dive operators and especially the people of Bonaire deserve as much of this recognition as I do. Because of the energy and enthusiasm of these people, I look forward to returning to Bonaire and the many friends I’ve made over the years.
Thank you again for my “Gold Ambassador” status. I hope to enjoy another 29 years of bringing divers (and myself) back to Bonaire. - Gold Ambassador Harold "Di" Dieter.
Thank you and congratulations “Di”!!
“Di” danki i hopi pabien!!
AMBASSADORS HONORED
Congratulations to Roger Lewis, Donald Schrader, James Carez, Donna Trippett, Marvin Trippett, Karen Pace!
The reason we have come to Bonaire and stayed at Habitat for each of the past 20 years are: our friends at Habitat, who work so hard to make it all so easy for us; the reef and its great condition; and corals and creatures. – Gold Ambassador Roger Lewis.
In 1984 I landed on Bonaire for the first time. I think I caught a big infection. I was mesmerized by the diversity and beauty of Bonaire’s underwater world. I believe I am not suffering alone. You can see it in the eyes of Captain Don Steward, thousands of fellow divers and the people of Bonaire as they admired work to protect this gem in the Caribbean. – Gold Ambassador Donald Schrader.
I enjoy bringing groups to Bonaire because we are not only treated as guests, but as friends. – Gold Ambassador James Carez.
I come back to Bonaire because I always enjoy coming to this beautiful island and I enjoy seeing and watching some of God’s creations that I can not see elsewhere. The water is so clear and beautiful and the reefs are so full of life. It is so amazing to see so many different fish, creatures, and corals. At Capt. Don’s the stay on the island is super, the staff are all friendly and helpful. I always feel that I have some friends here. Thank you for taking care of this place. – Silver Ambassador Donna Trippett.
What keeps me coming back to Bonaire is primarily the diving. Other than being on a live- a- board, this is the easiest diving I have ever done. If you don’t want to dive from a boat, the ability to stop anywhere on the coast line and dive is a wonderful asset of the island. The friendly people of the island help to make me feel at home. For me and for Scuba West Virginia, Bonaire has become our home away from home. – Gold Ambassador Marvin Trippett.
A little longer then 10 years ago, I started to dive. I am now 64 years old with 320 plus dives. I need a little more help with tanks, etc. and Captain Don’s Habitat provides it all. Bonaire is my favorite with the beautiful reefs and relaxed diving; how could I ask for more. As long as I can keep diving I will return to wonderful Bonaire. – Bronze Ambassador Karen Pace.
Thank you and congratulations!

As part of the new re-branding effort, InfoBonaire now also features a new logo, licensed from well known Bonaire artist, Linda Richter. Fourth Quarterly Clean Up Dive of 2006 Declared a Success by Participants
On Saturday, September 16th, 2006, a group of 32 divers met at Bonaire Yellow Submarine to prepare and coordinate for the final clean up dive of 2006.
After a comprehensive briefing by Jake Richter of NetTech (a co-sponsor of the Quarterly Clean Ups), the group geared up and headed out to the dive site, an area of coastline between the Something Special dive site and the fisherman’s pier. All divers were briefed as to what type of trash to bring up, as well as information on how to avoid harming the reef or other marine animals.
By 2:00 PM, the volunteers were all geared up and in the water where they found a rather strong current going north. Equipped with bags, scissors, and lifting gear provided by Yellow Submarine, the divers managed to collect over two hundred kilograms (440 pounds) of garbage, consisting of numerous bottles and cans, cups and plates, pieces of fiberglass, lost parts of an outboard engine and nine car tires. Even a brand new towel was found, which will be re-cycled for use. An upside down wheelbarrow remained, as the sea had already begun to claim it as its own: coral had begun to colonize on the metal.
At 5:30 PM, a pot luck barbecue was held for all participants. Drinks and the main course were supplied by the sponsors, while the volunteers brought in soup and salads. Some Danish divers who had participated also contributed with a huge amount of delicious tuna.
A special treat was the prize of an Akona gear bag, donated by sponsor PSI/Sherwood Scuba, which was awarded to Marjolein van Schaik Martinet for having found the most unusual piece of garbage during the clean-up dive - a working bicycle bell.
The next quarterly underwater cleanup will be conducted on Saturday, January 13, 2007--all are welcome, divers and non-divers alike. Meet at Yellow Submarine at 1:00 PM.

Rob Al to help French tour operators
The French tour operators got stuck. Being an upcoming market they were facing difficulties in ensuring the right air fares and conditions from KLM France. Since Rob knows his way around in France and at KLM, he succeeded in pulling the right strings in making this work. After a lobbying session the word came last week and French tour operators can book Bonaire at the conditions they want. What a little help of some friends can do....

TCB-NEW YORK REPORT
Bonaire 1
As the Scuba Tour truck crisscrosses the USA, the license plate BONAIRE 1 is just one more way Bonaire’s message is taken to key cities throughout the USA. The side panels of the truck were newly painted this summer by the renowned underwater artist Wyland. The truck is on the road an average of 20 days a month, as Big Wave Dave hauls the 17,000-gallon pool from one Adventure and Dive Show to the next.
The weekend of September 8-10, the Scuba Tour was in San Pedro, California (just outside of Los Angeles) at the annual Lobster Fest. The TV coverage on Fox went national, resulting in 120 TV markets across the USA hearing Big Wave Dave explain the best thing about learning to Scuba Dive is to travel to great places like Bonaire in the Dutch Caribbean and dive.
